For hot tub installation, you will need a solid, level place where you can set the spa (ensuring that you have access to receive the hot tub delivery). You’ll also need access to electricity and a garden hose in close proximity.

What does it cost to install a hot tub?

The costs of hot tub installation will be affected by where you want the hot tub installed and the price of the hot itself.

Can I install a hot tub myself?

Installing a small 13 AMP hot tub yourself is possible, as these hot tubs are predominantly self-contained systems. However, in order to do so properly, you may need to pour concrete or check that your decking can withstand the weight. Hiring a professional installer can help to ensure that the job is performed safely.

Can you plug a hot tub into a regular outlet?

13AMP hot tubs are commonly plugged into a regular outlet (standard domestic plug socket). However, these hot tub installations still require an outdoor waterproof plug socket with RCD protection in order to be used safely. Larger hot tubs have more complex power requirements.

What size breaker do I need for a hot tub?

The size of RCD circuit breaker that you need for your hot tub depends on the size and power requirements of your hot tub. Whilst ‘plug and play’ 13 AMP hot tubs can plug into waterproof domestic power supplies with RCD protection, 32 and 40 AMP hot tubs need 6mm² 3-core SWA cable and 10mm² 3-core SWA cable, respectively, as well as an IP65 45AMP Rotary Isolator Switch. These should be fitted by an electrician who meets Part P requirements.
